Our 23 × 12mm flat-sided oval (FSO) tube is cold-formed from standard 19.05 mm (¾") OD round tube to create a compact hollow section combining flat faces with radiused sides.

The profile is well suited to handrails, grab rails, handles, furniture, retail display systems, hanging rails, light-duty infill and OEM components, particularly where a flat surface is useful for mounting, fixing or integrating other components.

Despite its slim profile, the geometry of this FSO tube provides excellent resistance to deflection when loaded on its minor axis compared with the circular tube from which it is formed. This makes 23 × 12mm FSO particularly useful for retail and wardrobe hanging rails, where strength, a shallow profile and efficient use of material are important. Its resistance to bending also allows designers to consider longer unsupported spans or fewer intermediate supports, subject to the load, wall thickness, span and fixing arrangement of the individual installation.

The 23 × 12mm FSO tube may provide a suitable stainless steel near-size for specifications calling for 25 × 12mm flat-sided oval tube. We also manufacture a 23.5 × 13.3 mm oval tube from the same 19.05mm starting round tube if a fully curved, ergonomic profile is preferred. Dimensions and compatibility with existing brackets or fittings should be checked for the individual application.

Available in 304 and 316L stainless steel, the 23 × 12mm flattened oval profile can be produced in different wall thicknesses and surface finishes. Its hollow construction provides a lightweight alternative to solid stainless steel bar, while the flat faces can simplify fixing, drilling and the integration of inserts or other hardware.
