Metal handrail
Defy convention. Choose shaped tube railings.
Elevate architectural design with oval and D-shaped railings
“A tube handrail can do much more than provide a grip for climbing stairs or a barrier along an elevated walkway. A well-designed and finely crafted tube handrail can lend a sense of elegance that enhances and complements other design elements”.
The Tube & Pipe Journal (September 2020 feature about Timeless Tube handrails).
Discerning designers choose Timeless’s tube railings
At Timeless we’re passionate about tube railings – handrails, balustrading, grab rails on boats, clothes rails, kick rails. Tube railings provide a critical safety feature, and serve an important aesthetic function if you choose the right design. What’s more, the tubing you select for your architectural railing could make fitting and maintenance easier.
Timeless Tube started forming tube handrails from oval tubes over 30 years ago, and today we remain one of the industry’s most respected makers of bespoke shaped tube railings. Our stainless steel tubing handrails are now seen in shopping centres, arts institutions, airports, luxury spas, residential properties and commercial buildings in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
Shaped tube railings for enhanced aesthetics and ergonomics
Oval tube and D-shaped tube are our most popular handrail profiles. These distinctive stainless steel tube shapes are not only more sophisticated to look at, but they offer a better shape to grasp than regular round tube.
The most popular sizes for stainless steel oval tube handrail are 47 x 25 x 1.5mm or 61 x 37 x 2mm.
Our D-shaped tubing was originally designed to be used as tube handrails. It features a curved topside which is ergonomically shaped so it can be comfortably and securely gripped. Often clients choose stainless steel 50 x 18 x 1.5mm or 65 x 28 x 2mm when selecting this shaped tube handrail. Find out more about our D-shaped tube, and the sizes that we have available.
Our uniquely shaped radius square tube has been used as a grab rail and boat railings on super yachts and tenders: its gently contoured corners make for a striking alternative to standard round tubing.
Customised sizing and fabrication processes
Our tube railings come in an extensive range of shapes and sizes. But sometimes we need to make bespoke sizes, or create bends or other design features to meet clients’ needs. Our engineers can put bends into tube after we have shaped it for you, which is especially useful when you require tube handrails for staircases and ramps. Whether it is a helical staircase, a straight staircase with a drop, a long sweeping curve or tight bends that go around corners, we can engineer the tube to meet your desired specifications.
Easy fitting and fabrication – flat-sided tubing and oval joiners
Flat-sided oval tube and D-shaped tube both feature a flat face on the underside that makes for easier welding. The level surface allows you to attach the tube railings to structural glass or brickwork, making for a clean, level finish.
We also offer various stainless steel joiners for some of our most popular sizes of oval tubing. These useful connectors enable you to attach tubing together without the need for complicated cutting, making for easy welding and smooth, seamless joins.
Premium quality metals only
We only form our tube from premium quality round tube from the most reputable mills. This is to ensure that the finish is superior, and that the tube remains structurally sound to meet stringent building regulations for handrail.
Most of our tube railings are made from stainless steel tubing (inox), because it is simple to maintain and it offers a wide choice of finishes to suit your design. A luxurious mirror polish finish catches the light beautifully, whereas a satin finish adds contemporary appeal and effectively disguises fingerprints and smears. We typically form our tubing from stainless steel grades 304L (1.4301) or, if your tube railings are to be used externally, we recommend stainless steel 316L (1.4404) because it is highly resistant to corrosion.
We can also form tube handrails from other metals such as brass, bronze or cupronickel. Copper, or metal alloys that contain copper, have proven antimicrobial properties; this offers a compelling reason to consider copper and its alloys – especially in public environments and commercial properties.
Balustrade experts
We have extensive experience creating balustrades for all styles of property.
Popular tubes used for handrails
Oval Tube
An ergonomic, tactile shape that is perfect for handrails and balustrades in conjunction with structural glass and brickwork. A low-maintenance design commonly used for architectural and marine purposes.
Flat-sided Oval Tube
Clean, rounded lines and a flat-sided profile provide strength for architectural purposes – with a flat side useful for fixing to other elements.
D-shaped Tube
With a smooth top, flat section and incredible lateral strength, this ingenious design prevents water ingress and it’s easy to install. Ideal for handrail in public buildings and on marine craft.
Radiused Square Tube
Blended radius corners and a slight convex side provide greater strength than standard round tubing. This great alternative to box section tubing is popularly used for baluster railings and furniture.
Twisted Square Tube
Aesthetically striking, with the power to make a significant impact. Provides impressive strength integrity while being lighter and more cost-effective than conventional solid twisted bars.
Twisted Oval Tube
Innovative spiral forming applied to a classic oval tube design. This stunning twisted tube profile creates a mesmeric effect that is ideal for decorative metal architecture on buildings and boats.
